We are pleased to announce that our IconTrust® HMI has received TÜV NORD certification for functional safety in accordance with IEC 61508. This officially confirms that the system can display safety-related data up to SIL 3 and process safety-related touch inputs up to SIL 2. This certification marks the successful completion of an intensive development, verification and testing phase. It confirms our high standards of functional safety and the close collaboration of all those involved, which made this result possible. This globally unique SIL3 solution is certified to EN 61508 and offers ‘Security by Design’. The solution is particularly relevant for applications where functional safety, traceable process versioning and efficient adaptability to changes throughout a plant’s lifecycle come together.
Changes to the display, layout or process variants can be implemented via the configuration without the need for traditional rewiring or installation work. In many plants within the process industry, illuminated panels, switches and individually wired signals are still in use. Whilst these have long proved their worth, they quickly reach their limits when changes, maintenance or retrofitting are required: signals must be wired individually, messages assigned manually and information frequently looked up in the manual. IconTrust® HMI transfers these tasks to a digital interface. Safety-related display and control elements can be created there via a web-based configuration and adapted to specific projects. Useful information for day-to-day operations can be made available digitally, without any loss of time caused by working with analogue manuals. The system is designed as a PROFINET/PROFIsafe field unit and is used as a fixed-location safety control unit. The PLC remains in control: the safety controller determines which information is displayed. IconTrust® HMI displays the relevant content securely through independent monitoring of the defined display areas. For applications in the pharmaceutical and process industries, options include alarm panels, recipe and batch selection, process value display, operating mode selection, step sequences (Standard Operating Procedures), bypass/bridging (Maintenance Override Switch) and hybrid operation with SIL and non-SIL content. The user interface can utilise text, icons, graphics and colours to provide a clearer understanding of statuses and required actions. In this way, individual signals are transformed into more comprehensible information within the plant context.
