Project European Driver´s Desk (EUDD)
The R&D project European Driver´s Desk (EUDD), co-financed by the European Commission, DG Research, aims at the development of a modular train driver´s desk capable of operation across the European Countries. EUDD is one of the first approaches to realise the joint strategy “Towards a Single European Rail System”, proclaimed by the EC, UIC, UNIFE, UITP, and CER.
The project EUDD is divided into the following 5 work packages (WP):
| WP 1: | Definition of functional specifications |
| WP 2: | Design Concepts |
| WP 3: | Operational components, software development and functional realisation |
| WP 4: | Evaluation and Test |
| WP 5: | Verification and Recommendation for Harmonisation |
The Deuta Werke is involved as a partner into the EUDD project. The main topic for Deuta is the development of the hard- and software of the main terminals within WP 3. The terminals are the main driving terminal, the information and the diagnostics terminal. All three units finally should bee a user interface with a common functionality concept and appearance. Therefore a number of meetings with the project partners and railway operators took place. To find an accepted consensus among all participants intensive discussions were held to find solutions that finally will be realised by Deuta.
In a first design mock up presented at the innotrans 2002 Deuta already provided a set of hard- and software. At present a functional mock up is build to have test procedures with European train drivers within WP 4. Deuta will accompany this WP as well
