On Thursday, 21 September, a ten-member Chinese delegation is visiting Deuta-Werke in Bergisch Gladbach. High-ranking representatives of the Ministry of Railways (MoR) are gathering information on site about the competence and the capabilities of Deuta-Werke as a developer and manufacturer of cutting-edge rail traffic technology. The occasion is the use of innovative train safety technology made by Deuta in China.
Deuta-Werke may be granted the opportunity to put their products to the test in rail vehicles operating under the extreme conditions found on the Tibet line. This spectacular line rises to an altitude of 4,000 meters, crossing enormous expanses of wasteland and permanently frozen soil. "This is one more step on the way to the serial use of our products in the growth market in China," according to managing director Dr. Neil Craigie. Deuta-Werke was selected by their Chinese partners due to its enormous competence in rail vehicle technology.
Deuta currently has a stand at Innotrans, the International Trade Fair on Transport Technology in Berlin. On 19 September, Dr. Craigie already welcomed the Chinese delegation together with Mr. Liu, the managing director of Shanghai Deuta in Berlin. In addition to its own stand, Deuta took advantage of the fair to present two more highlights: a world-record locomotive and MODLink, a joint project towards the enhancement of the European rail system's future competitiveness.
World record with Deuta technology
At the Innotrans visitors can see the locomotive which, on 2 September 2006, set a new world speed record for locomotives on the newly built ICE line from Ingolstadt to Nürnberg: 357 km/h.?? Even if on 1 May 1988 the German ICE Experimental reached a speed of 406.90 km/h, and its French TGV competitor responded on 18 May 1990 with 515.3 km/h – both are considered train sets. The world record for a classic locomotive has been around 331 km/h for over 50 years. As a specialist in highly safe rail vehicle components, Deuta contributed the modern multi-functional terminal MFT 1 as a speed indicator and a Doppler radar sensor DRS 05 as a speed measuring system.
Minister Tiefensee visits MODLink project presentation
"The development of a single European rail region has taken on a decisive significance. During its presidency of the European Council, Germany will continue and, if possible, complete the on-going work on the third rail package, which comprises important suggestions towards a uniform train driver permit, regulations on passenger rights and market access in passenger service," said the Federal Minister of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs Wolfgang Tiefensee at the general meeting of the Community of European Railways in Berlin. His visit to the stand was also a tribute to the work of the integrated European project MODLink, which is a major milestone on the way to the competitive European rail system of the future. Deuta products are also used in this project in the prototype trains on the European rail network.
