At a ceremony on 22nd September, 2005, the first cross-border European Train Control System (ETCS) was inaugurated on a
route between Vienna and Budapest.
Attendees at the presentation ceremony in Vienna included Jacques Barrot (EU transport commissar) and Hubert Gorbach
(Austrian vice chancellor and federal minister of transport, innovation and technology).
Outstanding features of the ETCS route between Vienna and Budapest include Multi-Functional Displays from Deuta,
installed in the driver cabs of the two ETCS locomotives supplied by Siemens and Alcatel. The Taurus locomotive
from Siemens is furnished with the Multi-Functional Display MFD 23 qal; for its V63 locomotive, Alcatel selected
the Multi-Functional Display Provis.
As components of the ETCS system, Deuta's displays permit interoperable train traffic in compliance with universal
safety standards. ETCS supports locomotive drivers, raises daily train operation capacities, lowers energy
consumption rates and increases passenger safety.
Deuta's Multi-Functional Displays provide locomotive drivers with an anticipatory over-view of information such as
permissible and actual speeds, signal statuses, remaining distance to destination, target speed and line routing.
Deuta has a long tradition in developing and producing indicators and displays for railway applications. Characterized by
reliability, Deuta's Multi-Functional Diplays are delivered as complete solutions together with certifiable
documentation and software.
